Introduction
The most robust statnamic data regression software to date was developed by USF in conjunction with the Federal Highway Administration in 2002. This software, named SUPERSAW, makes use of the Segmental Unloading Point (SUP) method of analysis which was originally intended for long piles or shafts where the wave number was less than 10 (i.e. a compression wave could travel the full length of the pile 10 times within the duration of the statnamic loading event). In such cases, the assumption of rigid body motion during a statnamic test could not be supported.
The SUP method also provides other useful information as it can readily determine the side shear contributions along the length of instrumented deep foundations. This ability is now being upgraded to incorporate strain gage data from pile driving impacts. Although this is not far from the present capabilities of the software, it was decided that the software could more efficiently provide this feature if its architecture was revamped thus providing significant improvements to the package for all applications deemed suitable. For instance, it is not unreasonable for the software to not only regress statnamic and dynamic data, but also regress static data. The full extent of the revisions is not yet defined, but significant progress has been achieved for most scenarios.
